Skills vs Bots vs Dots: which AI kit do you need?

A Skill is a method, a Bot is a Grok teammate that runs on a schedule, and a Dot is an ongoing job for your always-on ChatGPT dot. Here is how to choose, and when a Bundle is the better buy.

GetKits sells four kinds of kit, and the names can be confusing at first. The short version: a Skill, a Bot and a Dot all do the same job, but in different ways. A Skill is the method. A Bot is a teammate that runs the method on a schedule. A Dot hands the method to the agent that already works for you in ChatGPT.

The three kits at a glance

KitWhere it livesWhat you getBest for
SkillClaude, ChatGPT, Codex, CursorA folder with instructions, templates, rubrics and worked examplesDoing the job well whenever you ask, in the tool you already use
BotThe Grok Bot appA teammate with a profile, saved skills and routines that run on their ownWork that should happen every day or week without you starting it
DotYour ChatGPT dotA responsibility pack: apps to connect, instructions, rules and check-insOngoing work across your apps, with decisions brought to you
BundleAll of the aboveAll three, plus a playbook for running them as one systemUsing more than one tool, or setting up a team the same way

Skills: the method your assistant follows

A Skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file plus the references, templates and examples it points to. Your assistant loads it when your request matches, then follows the method inside. The same zip uploads to ChatGPT and Claude, and drops into Codex and Cursor. Read more in What are AI Skills?.

Bots: a teammate that runs on its own

A Grok Bot is a durable teammate in the Grok Bot app. It has a name and a job, keeps its own conversation and memory, saves skills (how to do a task) and runs routines (when to do it, on a schedule or after an event). A GetKits Bot comes with all of that designed: the profile and its rules, three or more skills, the routines with their time zone and approval boundary, the plugins to connect and a safe test run. Install it from an Add to Grok Bot link when the kit has one, or set it up in about ten minutes from the setup file.

Bots are the most hands-off option: the morning pipeline check or the Friday design review simply happens. They still draft first and ask before they send, post or publish.

Dots: a new job for your always-on ChatGPT agent

A dot is ChatGPT's always-on agent. It has its own cloud computer and browser, uses the apps you connect and keeps working between conversations. You only have one dot, so a GetKits Dot does not create a new assistant. It hands your dot a new ongoing responsibility: which apps to connect and with what permissions, what to keep current, which changes deserve your attention, custom rules for what needs your approval, and a check-in schedule.

Dots need a ChatGPT plan with dots (Pro or Business Premium; on Enterprise an admin turns them on).

When a Bundle makes sense

Every official GetKits Bundle contains a Skill, a Bot and a Dot for the same job, plus a playbook that only the bundle includes: the setup order, how the three hand work to each other, the weekly rhythm and the metrics to watch. Choose a Bundle if:

  • you switch between Claude, Grok and ChatGPT during the week,
  • your team uses different tools and you want everyone working the same way, or
  • you want the job running as a system, not just a better prompt.

If you only ever use one tool, buy that one component and skip the rest. And if you want everything, GetKits Pro unlocks every official kit for a flat price, billed monthly, quarterly or yearly.

Still not sure?

Browse by job instead of by type. The Sales, Meetings, Content, Engineering, Design, SEO and GEO, Bot builder and Life pages list every kit for that job, whichever platform it runs on. If you want to try one first, the Life Assistant Skill is free.
